About the Yountville AVA

Yountville, designated 1999, is a valley-floor AVA in central Napa Valley surrounding the town of Yountville, a few miles north of the city of Napa. Because it sits toward the cooler southern end of the valley, morning fog and afternoon breezes off San Pablo Bay reach Yountville more readily than the warmer districts to the north. Soils are predominantly gravelly and sandy alluvium deposited by the Napa River and its tributaries. Yountville lies within the Napa Valley AVA and within North Coast.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the signature varieties, with the bay-moderated climate giving the reds a balance of ripeness and freshness that sits between the cool southern AVAs and the hotter mid-valley districts. The area is historically significant as one of Napa's earliest commercial winegrowing sites, dating to plantings established by George Yount in the mid-19th century.
